Have a great weekend & see you at the Maitland Markets Tomorrow… Fingers crossed the rain stays away!
Facebook, My Space, Twitter…… is there an end to the “social” networking these days?
So what do you think?
Admittedly I am a Facebook junkie…. but I find it to be a fantastic way to stay up to date and keep in touch with the friends I have made that are now scattered all over this beautiful country.
With the kids and the time difference it is difficult to keep in touch with everyone. Using Facebook (for personal use) allows me to see what everyone is up to in a few minutes, look at all of their gorgeous photos and make me feel connected to those I don’t get to see enough.
Then there is the flip side to it all…. Do people really have 957 friends????
If they did they sure wouldn’t have time to be sitting there on Facebook! Old school friends, work mates, aquaintances etc send through ‘friends’ requests….. so what do you do & what do they really want? To have a sticky beak at your photos, what you are up to and make sure they haven’t missed anything so on they jump to your friends list. Now what happens when you actually get to see them … God forbid… “FACE TO FACE” … does your new online ‘buddy’ have time to stop and say hello, time for a cuppa or a chat or is is a fleeting smile before their eyes go down and they suddenlt become pre-occupied with that is in the tree or on the footpath?
It makes me stop and wonder what we are teaching our kids and what is going to happen over the next 10 - 20 years. The days of the kids running up and down the street all day and dropping into any old neighbour’s house for a bite to eat and a Milo are gone but are the days of actually speaking to one another face to face fading as well. Our lives are so busy that we often don’t have time for coffee, no time for that phone call we have to make and too busy to get around to the kids having that play date ‘one day’. As convenient as social networking is let’s make sure that we use it to compliment our current “social” lives and not let it become our “social” life.
From a business perspective it is a great tool to be using and although I have set up my business page on Facebook with the current economic situation as well as the over commercialisation of our country I am finding it difficult to keep updating pages, web sites, newsletters etc ……
I am much better at creating than I am at promoting that’s for sure!
Then there is Twitter………… WHAT?
OK I still really don’t get it all. Great if you want to know what celebrity ordered pizza and when they went bowling but “TweetDeck”, “RT” & “exec.tweets”
Ahhhhhhhh……. It is all a bit too much for me.
I think the only “Tweeting” you will see me doing in the near future is laying on the grass under a huge tree listening to the birds!
Live Life & Enjoy!
Check out my newest line of jewellery as I discover the versatility of ceramics.
The pendants and rings are handmade (not by me but by a talented lady who specialises in ceramics) which I have been painting into these bold, bright and bubby designs. They are then coated with a gloss enamel to protect the art work and also give them a lovely glossy finish.
They will be uploaded to the web site later today.
It has been a long slow road to bringing Marakye Designs to life… in some ways due to a lack of confidence on my own part as well as a lack of time due to the little people in my life. Patience is not one of my strong points but slow and steady I am finding my mojo! 2009 has been set as my creative turn around year and I have so many ideas rushing around the old cogs are squeaking and the spider webs are diminishing so look out….you never know what may pop up!
